Castelnau, Barnes, London
Refurbishment and Extension of Grade II. Listed Building
The clients came to us with a desire to refurbish the existing property, and extend to the rear and enlarge the existing basement. Following continuous discussion with conservation officers we obtained planning permission for a stunning 2 storey extension with double height internal space. Contemporary new addition, clad in fibre cement panels wonderfully contrasts and complements the historic building. The refurbishment has allowed the clients to bring modern style living into beautifuly restored mansion.
Within the property, a beautiful bespoke contemporary metal staircase, Dinesen timber flooring throughout, and double height frameless glazing create symbiosis with original victorian features of the coach house.

Stepping Stone House
New living accomodation for the existing house
In collaboration with Hamish and Lyons Architects, we have been asked to design an entertainment zone for a large family with 5 children (5 boys aged 8 to 15). Connection with the nature, the abundant use of daylight, an organic structure and natural materials we the priority in the design process.
The smaller of the two new buildings is a self contained guest house and contains a kitchen / living space, utility corridor, bathroom and bed deck. The larger building is a multifunctional space with a bathroom and bed deck and is primarily be used by the children as a play room. It is connected to the existing house via a structural glass bridge. The stilts elevate the buildings above the lake, lifting them clear of the flood waters and allowing flush access to the existing house. They also make it possible to swim under the buildings.
The architecture and landscape merge with each other to create a playful and engaging place that is both calming and spiritual.
Much of the building was pre fabricated which allowed for a brief construction period on site and minimised waste. We have developed the design as a building system that can be deployed on sites where water is prevalent such as lakes, coastal sites and flood plains.
